The Danube Express Flexible Rail Travel Ideas

The 2012 brochure issued by the Danube Express features a mix-and-match approach to tailoring individual holidays from an array of journeys, upgrades and add-ons. Prices in the brochure are pegged to 2011 levels.For example, it is possible to join the train in Istanbul for a Transylvanian West journey, offering four countries in four days. These include Bulgaria, Transylvania and Hungary, with prices from £2,790.

There is also a four-day Polish Explorer option which lncludes guided tours of Malbork (once a stronghold of Teutonic Knights) and  the city of Gdansk with its harbour and the Old Town.The trip also tales in Cracow with its colourful past and the Wieliczka salt mines. Travelling through Slovakia, (new for 2012) the train will visit Bratislava for a morning tour in the castle. Prices are from £2,590.

Prices are per person based on two sharing a Deluxe twin en-suite compartment with all meals, complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks, all scheduled sightseeing, and the services of a train manager on selected departure dates in May. June and September. Deluxe single accommodation is available at a supplement.
